Trains that travel through Louisiana carry both passengers and products. In some cases, the products that trains carry may be very dangerous or toxic chemicals that must be transported safely to a destination by ground. When there is a train accident or derailment, passengers can be seriously injured and the chemicals can spill and damage property and nearby residents.

In recent derailments across the country, there have been significant damages resulting from the crashes. In one instance, the train was carrying chemicals that spilled and may have seeped into the water supply for a nearby school. In another accident, three thousand gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the ground. Perhaps the most frightening train accidents, however, involve the passengers.

Recently, a passenger Amtrak train was en route to Chicago when it crashed into a semi-truck on the tracks. Though there were no fatalities, it has been reported that anywhere from 6 to 10 people were taken to the hospital with injuries following the accident.

The train was unable to stop in time and crashed into a semi-truck that was stuck on the tracks. It is unknown why the truck, which was carrying oil production equipment, was unable to get off the tracks. It is also not reported if there were any malfunctioning safety equipment on the tracks, but the accident damaged the crossing lights, bells, gates, and signs.

Luckily, none of the passengers suffered life-threatening injuries. However, when a train derails there are frequently consequences that affect a number of people. On passenger trains, there may be serious injuries or fatalities. In cases when the train is transporting goods, there could be significant property damage and risks associated with toxic chemical spills or explosions.

Those who are affected by an accident involving a train may want to explore the possibility of seeking compensation for any damages.
