When a child is sick or injured and has to go to the hospital, every parent worries. While all patients should be able to expect to receive the best care possible, hospital and doctor negligence is still too common. In the most egregious cases of medical malpractice, a wrongful death is the devastating result.
Recently, a Louisiana woman had to bring her son into the hospital because he had suffered closed brain injury. During the course of the surgery, the mother claims that several instances of negligence took place.
The primary negligent behavior that took place was when a doctor allowed the young man's oxygen level to drop below safe levels. Doctors had inserted a breathing tube into the throat of the patient after they drained fluids from his brain. The drop in oxygen resulted in the young man going into cardiac arrest and he passed away.
A case has been filed against the hospital where the procedure took place. The victim's mother says that there was a general lack of medical knowledge and generally low standards of care during the procedure. The hospital also failed to properly follow policy and supervise the doctor.
The mother has obviously suffered from the loss of her son. The suit claims that the damages caused by the hospital include loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, lost wages, legal costs, and emotional distress.
Although there is no amount of money that can undo the tragic incidents, monetary damages can help the mother face an uncertain future. Financial compensation may help the surviving family members continue living in the fashion to which is was accustomed, and not suffer further from financial strain.
